Getnet joined the Plant With Purpose international team when the organization began working in Ethiopia in 2018.
Getnet grew up in the Zuy Hamusit area of Ethiopia, and went on to study Wildlife and Ecotourism at the University of Mekele. During his studies, he received a Gold Medal in Organizing, Leadership, and Coordination. Shortly after graduation, he began a three year stint of working in an agricultural office in North Gondar. During this time, he also became involved in his church’s local diocese, offering spiritual and social services. This experience led to him stepping into the role of General Secretary for Spiritual and Social Services in the area of Bahir Dar. In this position, he managed over 36,000 members of the church’s congregation.
In 2018, Getnet began working to inagurate Plant With Purpose’s presence in Ethiopia. “I have the full hope that if God wills,” he explained, “I will continue to serve the community and others in this next venture.”
Getnet and his wife Selamawit have two children at home. “I have special love and respect for my wife, my children and all my family,” says Getnet, “and I am very happy with my wife’s kindness and trust, and I am very happy with my marriage.”
In addition to his interest in spiritual development and ecology he enjoys singing and swimming. A guiding verse for him is Genesis 2:15: “And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.”
