What do trees have to do with rock music? It turns out . . . everything.
Leading a growing movement of artists making an effort to reduce the environmental impact of their touring is the international alternative rock band Coldplay. As a commitment to make their tours more “environmentally beneficial”, Coldplay has pledged to plant one tree for every ticket sold during their Music Of The Spheres World Tour, estimated to be in the millions.
To assist in the fulfillment of their sustainability initiative, Coldplay has partnered with One Tree Planted, the global tree planting, funding, and advocacy group. One Tree Planted has selected Plant With Purpose to partner in facilitating the planting 500,000 trees across several strategic sub-watersheds in Haiti. Plant With Purpose has been working in Haiti for over 20 years to combat the environmental degradation caused by heavy deforestation in the area, as well as economic poverty. The project will equip local farmers with the skills and tools to lead environmental restoration efforts, as well as strengthen the local economy and improve livelihoods.
“Playing live and finding connection with people is ultimately why we exist as a band. We’ve been planning this tour for years, and we’re super excited to play songs from across our whole time together,” said Coldplay in their tour announcement.
“At the same time, we’re very conscious that the planet is facing a climate crisis. So we’ve spent the last two years consulting with environmental experts to make this tour as sustainable as possible, and, just as importantly, to harness the tour’s potential to push things forward,” added the band.
“We applaud this movement toward environmental responsibility and are thrilled to partner with both One Tree Planted and Coldplay to support global reforestation efforts,” said Plant With Purpose CEO Scott Sabin.
This initiative is part of Plant With Purpose’s ongoing partnership with One Tree Planted whose mission is to restore the earth by partnering with local communities. Due to One Tree Planted’s international work, nearly 50,000,000 trees have been planted around the world so far.
