At Plant With Purpose, we believe growth doesn’t happen in isolation—it’s cultivated through collaboration, vision, and shared purpose. This year, we embarked on one of our most exciting organizational journeys yet: creating a new three-year rolling strategic framework, which we call the FY 2026–2028 Purpose Plan.
This plan represents more than a roadmap. It’s a living, evolving guide that reflects our collective mission: Together – Reversing rural poverty. Restoring watersheds. Renewing hope. Rooted in faith.
Why a Rolling Strategic Plan?
The challenges facing the communities we serve are complex and multifaceted. Rainfall is increasingly unpredictable. Poverty persists. Ecosystems continue to feel the strain. A traditional five-year plan, fixed and inflexible, can quickly feel outdated in such a dynamic environment.
That’s why we chose a rolling three-year approach. Each year, we will extend the horizon forward another year—always keeping our sights set on the long-term future, while remaining agile enough to respond to today's realities.
This flexibility ensures that Plant With Purpose continues to lead with resilience, innovation, and hope.
Collaboration at the Center
The real power of the Purpose Plan comes from how it was created. It wasn’t written behind closed doors or delivered top-down. Instead, it emerged through months of dialogue and collaboration between Board members and staff across the organization.
- The Board offered strategic guidance, governance perspective, and a wide-angle lens to keep us focused on the big picture.
- The Staff, both internationally and in the U.S., brought in-the-field expertise, programmatic insights, and the lived experience of working daily alongside rural communities.
- Together, we blended these perspectives into a unified plan that is both visionary and deeply practical.
This process became a reflection of our values: Faith, Collaboration, Empowerment, Innovation, Stewardship, Integrity, Respect, and Sustainability… all rooted in listening. Just as we partner with communities to restore watersheds, we partnered with one another to cultivate a shared direction.
What’s Inside the Purpose Plan?

The Purpose Plan sets ambitious yet achievable priorities for the coming years. It is built on six pillars grouped into three integrated themes: Equip, Optimize, and Scale. These are steadfast, overarching, and supportive principles intended to last through the three-year planning horizon. They guide our actions, work plans, and strategic priorities for the duration of the Purpose Plan implementation. The six pillars are:
- Investing in our People: Equipping our teams with the tools, training, and resources to lead with excellence.
- Investing In our Partners: Continuing to invest in our global network of partners as we enhance the capacity, competence, leadership, and organizational strength of our Plant With Purpose Global Partnership.
- Strategic Simplicity: Seeking the optimal path to sustainable growth and impact. Identifying what works best and aligning resources, strategies, and systems to optimize our work.
- Focused Innovation: Identifying, refining, and sharing innovative ideas. Intentionally creating space for innovation to emerge from all corners of our global partnership.
- Impact Beyond Growth: Thinking beyond our current funding and delivery models to achieve the maximum impact. Expanding our reach to transform more watersheds, families, and communities worldwide.
- Intentionally Outward: Strengthening relationships, sharing insights, and learning with local leaders, global partners, supporters, and organizations who share our vision, thereby strengthening and multiplying the impact of our work.
A Plan with Purpose
We didn’t name it the Purpose Plan by accident. Purpose is what drives us—a purpose that is rooted in our faith, in our mission, and in the hope we see growing in restored lands and renewed communities.
This plan isn’t just a management tool. It’s a commitment: to one another, the families we serve, and the future we’re building together.
Looking Forward
As we move into fiscal year 2026 and beyond, the Purpose Plan will serve as our compass. It will keep us oriented toward long-term transformation while giving us the freedom to adapt to the unexpected.
Most importantly, it’s a plan owned not by a few but by all of us. Every board member, every staff member, and every supporter has a hand in shaping the future it represents.
At Plant With Purpose, transformation happens when people come together. The FY 2026–2028 Purpose Plan is proof that when we collaborate with vision and purpose, we can grow a future full of hope, resilience, and renewal.
